If your bathroom is dated but still in good shape, the first question is what it costs to bring it up to date. Most of what you find online is a national average that tells you very little about your own home. Here are our actual starting prices, what moves them, and how they sit against replacing the room.
What bathroom resurfacing costs in Melbourne
Resurfacing a full bathroom starts from $2,750 inc GST. Individual items start from $990 for a bath, $660 for a shower base and $330 for a vanity sink. What you pay depends on the size of the room, the condition of the surfaces, and how many colours you choose.
| What we resurface | Starting price (inc GST) |
|---|---|
| Bath | from $990 |
| Shower base | from $660 |
| Vanity sink | from $330 |
| Full bathroom: wall tiles, bath, shower, shower base, vanity top and sink | from $2,750 |
These are starting prices, not quotes. Every bathroom is a different size and in different condition, so we’ll give you a free quote based on your bathroom. Send us a few photos or give us a call and we’ll put a price in writing.
What changes the price
- Size of the room. A larger bathroom is more surface area, more masking and more time.
- Condition of the surfaces. Chips, cracks and surface damage are repaired before any coating goes on. A surface that has been coated before by somebody else is the most expensive starting point there is, because all of it has to come off before we can begin.
- How many colours you choose. One colour is generally a single day. Two colours means two days, because the first has to cure before the second goes on.
- How much of the room you do. Wall tiles, bath, shower base, vanity and vanity top can be done together or individually.
Thinking about your kitchen too?
The same principles apply, though kitchens vary more because the original surface matters. Laminate, vinyl wrap, timber and other finishes each take a different amount of preparation, and the number of cupboard doors and drawer faces makes a real difference.
| What we resurface | Starting price (inc GST) |
|---|---|
| Benchtop | from $1,320 |
| Cabinetry | from $4,400 |
| Full kitchen: cabinetry, benchtop and splashback tiles | from $5,500 |
How that compares with replacing
Independent Melbourne cost guides put a basic bathroom replacement at around $10,500 to $21,000, with mid-range work considerably higher again. Homeowners posting their own quotes online routinely report figures well above that.
A full bathroom resurface starts at $2,750, so the savings are significant. Cost isn’t the only difference, though. Here’s how the two compare on everything else:
- Time. Most bathrooms are finished in a day. Two days if you have chosen two colours. A replacement can take multiple weeks.
- No demolition. Nothing is ripped out, so there is no skip bin in the driveway and no dust through the house.
- Your fixtures stay. Your bath, vanity, tiles and shower base stay where they are. We change how they look, not what is behind them.
For a bathroom that is structurally sound but dated, that is usually the whole decision.
What is included in our quote
- Protection. Every surface not being resurfaced is masked with protective material before we start, and all of it comes off before we leave.
- Repairs first. Chips, cracks and surface damage are made good before any coating goes on. Cracked shower bases are fixed with a custom inlay, not simply coated over.
- The product. We use NAPCO professional coatings. They aren’t sold over the counter and can only be applied by a trained applicator. Our bathroom coating is low-VOC, made to be sprayed inside an occupied home, and cures in two to four hours. Once it’s cured, your bathroom is ready to use.
- Colour. Any colour, in gloss or satin, and we will help you choose. Baths included.
- Warranty. Every job comes with a full warranty and care instructions. It covers adhesion: how well the coating bonds to the surface underneath.
- A clean finish. We leave your home the way we found it.
When resurfacing is not the right answer
Resurfacing isn’t right for every bathroom, and if yours isn’t a good fit, we’ll tell you when we quote.
- If there is water damage behind the walls or the waterproofing has failed, no surface treatment fixes that. You need a builder.
- If a shower base is too badly damaged to repair, it needs replacing.
- If the layout genuinely does not work for you, resurfacing will not change it.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to resurface a bathroom in Melbourne?
A full bathroom, covering wall tiles, bath, shower, shower base, vanity top and sink, starts from $2,750 inc GST. Individual items start from $990 for a bath, $660 for a shower base and $330 for a vanity sink. The final figure depends on the size of the room and the condition of the surfaces.
Is bathroom resurfacing worth it?
If the room is structurally sound but dated, yes. You keep your fixtures, you keep your layout, and most bathrooms are back in use within a day or two. If there is water damage, failed waterproofing, or a layout you have never liked, it is not the right answer and we will tell you so.
How much does it cost to resurface just the bath?
From $990 inc GST. A bath on its own is one of the most common jobs we do, and it is generally finished within a day.
Can you repair a cracked shower base?
Yes, in most cases, without replacing it. We make a custom shower inlay to fit your base and bond it over the top, so the crack is sealed and covered. Inlays suit porcelain, ceramic and pressed steel bases, come with a built-in anti-slip surface, and the shower is ready to use 24 hours later.
How long does resurfacing last?
Your resurfaced bathroom lasts as long as the surface underneath it, provided it was prepared and coated properly. We back our own workmanship with a warranty and care instructions.
